The Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party have today announced that Chairman Richard Suchorzewski has become it’s Leader. Richard, who succeeds co-founder Jonathon Harrington, is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead in the run up to next years Welsh Assembly / Senedd elections.

For more than 20 years Richard has publicly spoken out against The Welsh Assembly which he believes is an expensive and unnecessary tier of bureaucracy.

Originally from Ystrad Mynach and now living in Sully, Richard is a former Bank Manager and is currently running his own business advising small to medium sized Welsh firms.

Former leader Jonathon Harrington said:

“Richard is the right person to spearhead our Welsh Assembly / Senedd election campaign through 2021. Knowing Richard as I do, the next few years will be a most exciting time for The Party and its supporters under Richards guidance and leadership”.

Richard is keen to improve on The Party’s impressive first Assembly election where they managed to return 4.4% of the regional list vote.

“I shall do everything in my power to ensure that The Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party gains a number of seats in the 2021 Welsh Senedd elections. We will do this by showing the people of Wales, what an unnecessary tier of politicians, bureaucracy and expense the Senedd truly is, and how the last 21 years has proven that it is a failed devolution project.

Richard continued:

There are going to be a number of surprise announcements over the coming months together with a rebranding and Party membership scheme launched as we move into a new decade. The battle facing us is a clear one – Independence v Abolition and remaining part of The Union. Let’s not be fooled, a vote for any Party other than Abolish, is a vote for Independence. It is essential that we have a referendum so that the people of Wales can control their own destiny with an informed choice.”

  1. I read about the Abolish party in the ‘Spectator’ ! You need more publicity, because l hadn’t heard about you at all. I know so many people who think the Welsh assembly is a complete waste of time.
Perhaps you could capitalise on the lockdown? London would have implemented lockdown on a regional basis and areas like ours – Ceredigion – who have had no excess deaths, and whose hospital is nearly empty, would be allowed to carry on living.

  2. I support the idea of abolishing the Welsh Assembly/Government; but not because I don’t believe in devolution, but because devolution hasn’t worked in Wales. I think that the best way to challenge the hegemony of the Welsh Labour Party is to demand that they present an accounting of what they have achieved over the past 20 years against the aggregate net additional cost of devolution, including the costs of all the quangos they have set up. Their responsibilities include Health: Education, Employment and Transport. I believe that when compared with the rest of the UK the record of the Welsh Government in those areas over the past 20 years has been poor. However, I do not have the hard statistics to support this belief; which I know to be widely shared. I wish there was some way I could get hold of the relevant data.
